Sights

Some of the well-known city centre streets were traced out more than ten centuries ago. To walk through the city centre is to walk through history, which in many places can be breathed and touched.

Find your own favourite corner of Belgrade. Don't just listen to the recommendations of your hosts - the people of Belgrade are often not aware of the wonderful quiet little corners of their city.

There are places in Belgrade which you absolutely must see and experience for yourself: streets, squares, monuments, parks, fountains, archaeological sites and other interesting places worthy of recommendation. Many of these have been designated as cultural treasures.

Museums in Belgrade

The Residence of Princess Ljubica was erected by order of Miloš Obrenović in 1831. The edifice used to be a private residence of Princess Ljubica, Prince Miloš's wife. Contractor Hadži Nikola Živković did the construction. By its architectural composition and arrangement, the palace belongs to the Balkan style, with some western Baroque elements

Churches in Belgrade

Preparations for the construction of one of the largest orthodox churches in the world started way back in 1894. The church is being built at the place where in 1594 Sinnan Pasha had the holy relics of St. Sava burned at the stake, after he had them brought over from the Mileševa Monastery.

Belgrade Fortress

At the end of the 1st century, due to its strategic importance, the Romans had built a castrum, as a permanent military camp for the 4th Flavius' Legion. After the Goths and Huns destroyed it, the fortification was rebuilt during the first decades the 6th century.
